They waited to fall upon the preachers when the travelers entered a town. But the people often sided with the preachers, forming a strong ring around them to protect them form harm....

Thus the brook carried his ashes into the Avon, the Avon into the Severn, the Severn into the narrow seas and they into the main ocean.
