Art Class: Giotto di bondone: Hope and Desperation, 1306
There seems to be no better illustration of desperation than drug addiction and living one's life solely for the next high. No thought of family, friends, vocation, marriage, children etc.
Shakespeare: HAMLET
To be, or not to be? That is the question—
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And, by opposing, end them? To die, to sleep—
No more—and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to—’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished! To die, to sleep.
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life....
... Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country from whose bourn
No traveler returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,

Art Class: Giotto di bondone: Justice and Injustice, 1306
Iago: He hath a daily beauty in his life That makes me ugly;
Before ever considering the justice of God and how He exercises it, we must well consider that He is a Holy God. What happens when a Holy God meets an unholy people? Indignation happens. A Holy God who is indignant must needs judge. Sodom and Gomorrah and Jesus driving the money changers out of the temple are an example. Isaiah 6
As Anne of Austria once remarked to Cardinal Richelieu: "God does not pay at the end of every day, my Lord Cardinal, but at the end, He pays."
Hymn: Hail Sovereign Love that first began the scheme to rescue fallen man. by Jehoida Brewer
Indignant justice stood in view,
To Sinai’s fiery mount I flew,
But Justice cried with frowning face,
“This mountain is no hiding place!”
Poem: The Hound of Heaven by Francis Thompson

Poem: The Hound of Heaven by Francis Thompson
I FLED Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter. | 5 |
Up vistaed hopes I sped;
And shot, precipitated,
Adown Titanic glooms of chasmèd fears,
From those strong Feet that followed, followed after.
But with unhurrying chase, | 10 |
And unperturbèd pace, | |
Deliberate speed, majestic instancy,
They beat—and a Voice beat
More instant than the Feet—
‘All things betray thee, who betrayest Me.’ |

Bible Study: The Holiness of God: Holiness and Justice examines the meaning of holiness and why people are both fascinated and terrified by a holy God. This series closely explores God’s character, leading to new insights on sin, justice, and grace. The result is a new awareness of our dependence upon God’s mercy and a discovery of the awesomeness of His majestic holiness. R.C. Sproul says, 'The holiness of God affects every aspect of our lives — economics, politics, athletics, romance — everything with which we are involved.'"

Art Class: Giotto di bondone: Prudence - Foolishness, 1306
- We watched the movie: 12 Angry Men
- Read the article on the The Imaginative Conservative about examining the corrosive effects of prejudice, which is at heart a failure of the virtue prudence. The classical tradition considered prudence to be the leader or "charioteer" of the other virtues, setting their rule and measure...HERE
- We scoured our upcoming summer schedule and in light of past summer time consumers, eliminated a lot of imprudent activities, regaining hours, days, weeks and, 'gasp' MONTHS!
- We watched the PBS Frontline Documentary - Two American Families and discussed how quickly life tends to happen and why it is so very important to get off the 70mph life-train and think, look ahead and most importantly ask the question: "How has this worked out for me in the past, how am I doing now and where am I going, exactly." Proverbs 22:3 " A prudent man forseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished."
- Proverbs 12:16, Prov 12:23, Proverbs 19:4, Proverbs 13:16, Prov 14:15m , Prov 18:15, Proverbs 14:18.
- Abigail, Nabal and David...or as our Abigail would put it..."David attacks Nabal for a Vineyard"
- Moses and his father-in-law: Jethro
- Nehemiah oversees the building of the walls of Jerusalem
- Rehoboam and the aged counsellors: Out with the old and in with the new.
- David and Ahithophel.

Art Class: Giotto di Bondone: Infidelity and Faith, 1306
On fidelity and faithfulness towards others and in marriage, we watched a biography of princess Diana's turbulent life, destroyed by unfaithfulness and selfishness.
Bible Study Today: Luke 17. Offences are bound to come but woe to him or she by whom they come.
The type of sermon that would get most pastors handed their heads on a
platter. Richard Baxter has this to say on the subject of Christian
modesty in dress: "And though it be their sin and vanity that is the
cause, it is nevertheless your sin to be the unnecessary occasion, For
you must consider that you live among diseased souls! And you must not
lay a stumbling-block in their way, nor blow up the fire of their lust,
nor make your ornaments their snares; but you must walk among sinful
persons as you would do with a candle among straw or gunpowder; or else
you may see the flame which you would not foresee, when it is too late
to quench it."

Shakespeare Sonnet 29:
When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
